Are Red Kitchens In or Out?

All of the red, white and blue this week got me thinking about my lovely red kitchen, and whether red kitchens are still hot.  I painted my kitchen when mom painted hers red - when it seemed that red kitchens were all the rage.

But is red the new avocado green??

It has been five years since we did our kitchen remod and we put five, yes, five coats of red paint on the wall.  And now I'm considering repainting.  I found a great tool to help me at least narrow my color choices before I go to the next step of putting some sample patches on the wall to see how they look in the daytime and then at night.  Our kitchen's light varies so much with our windows facing west.

Anyway, back to the cool tool I found.  Sherwin-Williams has a tool called Color Visualizer.  You upload a picture of the room you want to paint.  Then you "mask" the areas that get painted.  That's the green area below.

Now I admit my "masking" skills leave something to be desired.  But they do have a nifty Zoom option so you can really get detailed with your "masking."  Ignore the island wall.  I think I will paint that the same color as the wall, but I'm not sure yet.

So after you are done, you pick a color that is applied over the green areas.

Here are my top three picks for a new kitchen color:

6125 Craft Paper

7504 Keystone Gray

6356 Copper Mountain

I like them all, even the red holds a special place in my heart. So I need your help!

Please comment below on which color you like best, or email me at henriettas.house5@gmail.com.

  2. I do like the red but from the new swatches you've selected, my pick is the Craft Paper.
Looks like it's time for me to paint the red guest bedroom a new color.

  3. Craftpaper or Copper Mountain!

I think Copper Mountain wins by a nose.
